How to Migrate Your Webflow Assets to Flowdrive
Fully no-code. URLs updated automatically. Takes minutes, not days.
May 22, 2026 · Product GuidesMost Webflow agencies hate migrations. The word itself is synonymous with broken links, frantic Slack messages at 2 AM from clients and hours of painstakingly copy pasting and replacing stuff throughout CMS collections. So when a tool claims it can migrate all your assets to a new home with one click and update every single URL in your Webflow site automatically our eyes are understandably raised.
That is exactly what Flowdrive's migration tool does. It hooks directly into your Webflow site through the official Webflow App imports all your assets, moves them over to Flowdrive's infrastructure and automatically updates all the links throughout your Webflow build. You do not need to write a single line of code. You do not need to go through and manually update every field in every CMS collection. And you definitely do not need to later run around trying to find all the broken links.
In this guide we will break down exactly what happens before, during and after migration so you know what to expect.
Before Migration A Few Things You Need to Know
Flowdrive can migrate anything that you can upload to Webflow. So if it is in your Webflow asset panel or Media Manager Flowdrive has got you covered. That means images, videos, PDFs, audio files documents and even ZIP archives. No file type restrictions and absolutely no limits on the number of assets.
You also do not have to worry about file size limits holding you back. The 10 MB limit in Webflow applies to the uploads themselves, not the total size of assets Flowdrive can handle.
What Flowdrive Can Migrate

Archives -ZIP RAR
Any other file type stored in Webflow's asset panel
One quick clarification: Flowdrive migrates all assets that are currently hosted in Webflow's Media Manager and asset panel. However any assets that are being embedded through external URLs like YouTube videos Vimeo embeds or images hosted on a third party server are not included in the Webflow asset migration as they are not stored within your Webflow site. You will need to upload those directly to Flowdrive separately if you want them to be hosted there.
How Migration Works: The Step by Step Process
The whole migration process takes place through the Flowdrive Webflow App. Here is exactly what that looks like.
1 Install Flowdrive From the Webflow App Marketplace
Head to the Webflow App Marketplace search for Flowdrive, install the app and connect it to your Webflow workspace. If you have multiple client sites you can connect them individually with Flowdrive keeping each site's assets isolated.
If you do not already have a Flowdrive account the app install process will create one for you so there is no need to sign up separately beforehand.
2 Open the Flowdrive App in Webflow Designer
After installing the app open your Webflow site in the Designer and access the Flowdrive app from the Apps panel. This is where all the migration happens inside the familiar Webflow interface not in a separate dashboard.
3 Choose Which Assets to Migrate
Flowdrive will display all the assets that are currently hosted in your Webflow site. You can choose to migrate all of them in one go or select only specific assets if needed. For most agencies carrying out a full site migration migrating all your assets at once is the best bet.
However, if you are running Flowdrive in tandem with Webflow's native storage during a transitional period, selective migration lets you move assets gradually without causing any issues during development.
4 Run the Migration
Simply click the migrate button. Flowdrive will move all the selected assets from Webflow's storage to its own infrastructure and begin updating every single reference to those assets throughout your Webflow site. This covers everything static page content CMS collection fields and any other area where your asset URLs are used. You will not have to hunt down or manually update anything as Flowdrive handles the entire audit and update process automatically.
5 Verify and Publish
Once the migration is complete Flowdrive will provide a confirmation report of all the assets that have been moved and the URLs that have been updated. Just review the summary, publish your Webflow site and your new Flowdrive hosted URLs will be live.
Your assets will now be served through Flowdrive's global CDN offering faster delivery and removing them from your Webflow plan's bandwidth limits.
How Long Will It Take ?
Small sites less than 50 assets usually less than 2 minutes
Medium sites 50 to 500 assets usually 5 to 15 minutes
Large sites over 500 assets usually 15 to 30 minutes depending on asset sizes
URL updates in Webflow happen automatically as part of the migration with no extra time needed
How URL Updates Work Automatically
This is what truly sets Flowdrive's migration apart. When you move an asset to a new host all the places that asset is referenced need to be updated to point to the new URL. For a site with hundreds of assets spread across various static pages, CMS collections and rich text fields, finding and updating every single reference manually can be a daunting task.
Flowdrive makes it effortless by scanning your Webflow site's content during the migration and pinpointing every instance where an asset URL is used. When the asset is moved to Flowdrive its corresponding URL in your site is updated in the same step. By the time the migration is finished there will be no more broken links pointing to your old Webflow hosting.
By default these updated URLs will point to Flowdrive's global CDN. However if you have set up a custom domain in Flowdrive which is as simple as adding a single DNS record your assets will be served directly from your client's domain using a URL structure like files.clientbrand.com or assets.clientbrand.com.
Set Up Custom Domain Delivery (Optional but Recommended)
If you want to give your clients a seamless branded experience and ensure all SEO benefits are tied directly to their domain it is highly recommended that you set up custom domain delivery with Flowdrive. This replaces the generic Flowdrive CDN URL with one that matches your client's brand for example files.clientbrand.com or assets.clientbrand.com.
Custom domain delivery serves a dual purpose. It maintains SEO authority on your client's domain as crawled and indexed assets will contribute to that domain's trust and authority and it presents a consistent brand experience to visitors.
After Migration What Changes and What Stays the Same
Once you have migrated your Webflow site and pushed it live visitors will not see any difference. They will still access the same assets in the same locations and load even faster as they will be served from a CDN server near them instead of Webflow's main server.
But for you the agency or client there are some awesome upgrades.
- Less Webflow Bandwidth
Since your assets will now be served from Flowdrive's servers the traffic will not be deducted from your Webflow bandwidth allowance. This is a huge relief for clients who were bumping up against or already exceeding their plan limits.
- No More File Size Limits
Forget Webflow's limit. With Flowdrive you can upload and replace files up to 2GB in size.
- Upload Directly to Flowdrive
For any future assets you need to add to your site you will upload them directly to Flowdrive. Plus you can even embed a Flowdrive widget in your Webflow site so clients can upload files directly without needing access to the Designer.
- One Central Hub for Clients
Flowdrive's dashboard provides a streamlined interface for clients to upload, organize and manage their assets without needing to log into Webflow.
What About Those Third Party Embeds
Flowdrive's one click migration only works for assets you have uploaded directly into Webflow. Videos from YouTube or Vimeo images hosted elsewhere and files stored on Dropbox or Google Drive are not affected by the migration.
To get those onto Flowdrive you will need to upload them directly through the Flowdrive dashboard. Flowdrive has special import flows for Dropbox Uploadcare and Vimeo and you can always do a direct upload for any file type. Once they are in Flowdrive you can swap out the third party links for ones to your client's domain.
Common Questions Before Migrating
Do I Need to Back Up My Assets
No. Flowdrive copies your assets from Webflow; it does not delete them. So your files will be in both places after migration until you are ready to remove them from Webflow. There is no risk of data loss.
Can I Migrate in Stages
Absolutely. You can choose which assets to migrate with each migration run. Assets not migrated will remain in Webflow and continue to work normally.
Will This Affect My Live Site
No. Changes only take effect once you publish your Webflow site after migration. Until then the asset links on your live site will remain unchanged giving you time to review.
Can I Manage Client Sites With an Agency Account
Yes. You can connect and manage multiple Webflow sites from a single Flowdrive account.
What Happens to My Webflow Bandwidth
Migrated asset traffic will be routed through Flowdrive not counted against your Webflow bandwidth. This can be a major win for clients on lower Webflow plans.
