How to get the smallest file

Quality preset

Controls how aggressively the video is re-encoded. High keeps the most detail; Balanced is visually identical for most web video at a smaller size; Smallest prioritizes the lowest file size.

Resolution

Scaling down to 1080p or 720p is the single biggest way to shrink a file. If your video is 4K but plays in a small embed, downscaling saves huge amounts of size with no visible loss.

Remove audio

Background loops, hero videos, and silent clips don’t need an audio track. Dropping it removes the audio stream entirely for a smaller file.

H.264 + faststart

The output is H.264 video in MP4 with “faststart,” so the metadata sits at the front of the file and playback can begin before the whole file downloads.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this video compressor free?

Yes — completely free, no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many videos you compress.

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with WebCodecs (with a WebAssembly fallback). Your video never leaves your device and is never uploaded to a server.

Will compressing reduce the quality?

Some quality is traded for a smaller file, but the “Balanced” preset is tuned to look visually identical for most web video. Pick “High” to keep more detail, or “Smallest” for the lowest file size.

What formats can I compress?

MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM, up to 2 GB. The output is always a web-ready MP4 (H.264 + AAC).

Why is the output always MP4?

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio plays on every browser, phone, and device, and supports “faststart” so it begins playing before fully downloading — the safest choice for the web.
